Automobiles in Germany's City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were alerted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for details.

A high-ranking official said the attack left him without words and required to be resolved promptly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
